Go Away Ick is a colorful, 30-page, 239-word, 8.5" x 8.5" hardcover book with a likeable character named Katie, who is battling the Ick. The Ick is a purple shadow that visually represents feelings we have and can’t explain. It’s left intentionally undefined and open to interpretation because every person’s “Ick” is different from the other.
The book comes with a removable parent/provider guide to use as a guideline for interpreting the story and how to use the book as a tool to encourage discussion. Once the guide is removed from the back pocket, the pocket is open and available to encourage children to leave notes about what makes them feel icky. This interactive feature allows the adult to read the notes for insight about the child's feelings.
This book is ideally suited for any child age 5-11, who might be struggling with anxiety, depression or mental health in general. It is suggested to be used by parents, school guidance counselors, educators, as well as mental health professionals.
